Lees Profile
Welcome to Lee's Botanical Gardens!
We are a dedicated carnivorous plant nursery located in SW Florida between
Lake Okeechobee and Ft. Myers.
This is our 28th year serving the insectivorous hobbyist.
Over the years we added orchids, ferns, and many other unusual or exotic
plants, and yes, even reptiles.
Since we also do an antique business, there is a link to visit our store to see our
artifacts for sale.
I've been collecting Carnivorous plants most of my life.
Back in 1964, while reading a copy of Boys Life magazine,
I spotted an ad for GROWING MEAT EATING PLANTS...!
That really got me, Hook... Line and Sinker.
Had to have one, and then of course, another, etc... they are very addictive.
Next thing you know, I had a nursery, and in 1981 I started selling off my
excess.
For those of you who remember and visited, we started in Ocala Fl, then moved
six years later to Miami, and a year before hurricane Andrew hit, we moved
again to Labelle.
We've been there for the past 17 years. We are not a 'walk-in' nursery, but
visitors are welcome by appointment.
The Lee's online web site has been operating since 2002, and we now have
clients worldwide.
This business is a part time job-hobby as I am a associate grower at a local
national nursery just down the road.
I belonged to the ICPS for a decade, as well as a member of the South FL. orchid society,
and the Cyclades society.
I have written a few articles on CP that made it to print, and have had local news
papers do articles on our nursery about plants and reptiles.
I am well known in reptile circles as a hunter, breeder, dealer, and maintain a
collection of snakes and our nursery mascot is a four foot crocodile.
We do specialize in carnivorous plants, we try to offer as many different species,
hybrids and forms as possible, often we will list a rare item in limited numbers
and they will sell out and be removed all within a week, so it is important to
check back regularly.
We also offer some wholesale lots to blow out our overflow on the slower selling
common varieties.
Since we are in the deep south, plants like the Sarracenia go through two
dormancy, your typical winter sleep, as well as a heat of the summer slumber,
and most don't wake back up till night temps drop back into the mid 60's which
down here is October.
Nepenthes love it here in south Florida. so that is our favorite plant grown, we
grow low land to mid alt (4500 ft) varieties, as the highland stuff just can't
survive the heat.
Many hybrids including about 40 which we have made over the past three
decades.
We are not Drosera, Pinq, or Utric people, but we carry a few to make our
customers happy, definitely not experts on those plants, but they do grow for us.
Hope you enjoy the new web site look, it's been in the works for quite awhile.
Everyone has been asking for more photo's, so ...now you have more photos.
We plan to soon, have a shot of every plant we sell, and as time goes on, we will
replace fair photos with better ones.
Have a great growing season, and if your ever in the area, please drop us an
e-mail and stop by......good growing!
